Wow, I'm incredibly inspired by your story, David. I started a personal fitness journey at the age of 48 (now 52). Whenever I read stories similar to yours (fitness challenges, etc) from people a decade or more older than me, it pushes me to keep going and makes me realize that if you keep moving, your mind and body will keep moving with you, no matter how old we are.
It's amazing that you walked 100k steps in less than 24 hours!) Last summer, I decided to create my "own marathon." However, my marathon included cartwheels, yoga, ocean swimming, food breaks and photo opps along the route. I invited two friends to walk with me and it was a blast. Including all the breaks, it took us almost 12 hours and I set a personal record of 63,000 steps/42km/26miles. I'm 5 feet (short stride).
Here's the story in case you're interested. https://betterhumans.pub/the-awesome-marathon-adventure-8a9cc22a46af?sk=804483943e9669c476e849a794f4673b
Now that I've read your story, you've got my mind lighting up! And I'm wondering if I should take the 100k step challenge! You make it sound doable with the breakdowns and advice you've given! The "gu" pockets...good idea.
Thanks for sharing your insight and big congrats on your 100k step goal! Mary:)
