I'd like to see editors of publications get compensated for the voluntary work they do behind the scenes to run a successful, well-organized publication.
Editors tend to writers to proof their stories, ensure they're formatted and tagged correctly, and make edits or suggestions, so that their stories can look their best in the publication.
I'm the owner and main editor of Six Word Photo Story Challenge publication which I launched two years ago. It's a photography pub, and the concept is, "Can you tell a story in six words inspired by a photo taken by yourself?" Two-minute backstories are allowed, and most writers send backstories. Every month, we post a new challenge.
Our writers range from newbie to experienced and professional photographers. Our writers tell me that they LOVE the pub and are hooked on this type of unique type of storytelling. We've built an amazing, interactive community and have a dedicated readership. We've published some excellent quality photo stories over the past 2 years and typically publish 100-150 stories per month.
I asked two editors to come on board with me (since Spring of 2022) and I'd love if Medium could offer support via compensation (to pubs such as ours).
Perhaps, a regular monthly flat fee or quarterly bonus that could be divided by the pub owner and all editors. One of my editors lives in India and is not part of the MPP (yet).
We all have day jobs, and realize Medium is a supplemental source of income, but it would nice to either have some compensation.
Here is a link to our September conclusion which features stories that our editors picked to highlight for our "September Shadows" prompt. Some awesome stories here.
I applied for the Boost program on July 11, 2023 but haven't heard back, other than that I'm still on the waitlist.
Thanks for your reading time.
